Done a couple of these recently. This from the nice guys at The Line of Best Fit http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/2012/01/watch-benjamin-shaw-how-to-test-the-depth-of-a-well-best-fit-session/

Afterwards I had a black pudding scotch egg. I still think about it.

Your first christmas song can be a dangerous stepping stone to horrible things. Thankfully, this is a collaboration with my good friends Fighting Kites so I can’t take all the blame.

Have a good one.

November 2011 - The Album

It’s about time I posted something about this. After years of toiling and soiling, I finally have a real album out in a few weeks. It’s called “There’s Always Hope, There’s Always Cabernet”, a title I’ve had in mind for years, and it’s a bit of a mess really. I do like a mess though. Look, here’s the artwork:

So, yes. I’m not really sure what to say now. It took for-fucking-ever, but I’m pretty proud of it. Please buy it, etc. It’s pretty cheep.

You can go to the bandcamp page to pick it up. The physical version is pretty lovely looking too.

In adjoining news, I’ve been writing promotional articles for this release recently (I made a nice quip about Brian Paddick in one today) and here’s the first one to be published:

Adventurously layered instrumental rock from North London’s Fighting Kites, freed from the build and release overwhelmingness that most of its kin cleaves to in favour of circulatory intricacy. Conquers is on a split EP with Broken Shoulder out on Audio Antihero in October.

August 2011 - An album, and too many shows.

So, it has been a long time in coming, but I have an album out later this year on the arrogantly charitable Audio Antihero Records. It is not finished yet, but the release date is the 21st November. We’ll see about that.

Also, in support of this, I have a million gigs coming up. Which is funny, because I don’t really like playing gigs. Joke’s on me, I suppose.

Here are some of the dates coming up, and there are others still being arranged, including a few on the Europe mainland. Ooh la la.

April 2011 ——— A Rund Up

HI READERS. A few things recently which I have sullenly neglected to talk about.

Audio Antihero have been flying this year, releasing things all over the place, and it has been wonderful to watch and a be a part of. OK. Firstly, and probably most importantly, they did the Japan Relief Effort compilation Bob Hope Would. It was so full of stuff you couldn’t move, I added a new song for it, and it was all only £3.99. So far, it has made lots of hundreds of pounds and has been a mega effort by all involved. If you have time and money, please buy it here.

Bob Hope

More importantly though, obviously, AAH released my favourite album of this year in March: Broken Shoulder’s debut Broken Shoulderrr.

I did the mastering for it. Yep. It’s something I’m very proud to have helped with. So noisy and dark, but so melodic and memorable at the same time.

Please buy it here. It really is wonderful.

Jan 2011 - EP :Track Of The Day by Jack Hayter

Out on Monday. It’s quite exciting.

thewhiteboardproject:

Jack Hayter Track by Track  Sucky Tart E.P   release Jan 31st 2011 on Audio AntiHero

Just in case you didn’t  figure it out; Sucky Tart is an anagram the name of  of a famous sailing ship called the Cutty Sark that lies in dry dock in Greenwich. The Cutty Sark was a fast tea clipper; there was a need for speed in the tea trade between Britain and China in the 19th Century.

December 2010 - Jack Hayter

Merry merry.

In more important news, I had the honour of making some artwork for an EP being released by a hero of my youth, Jack Hayter, of the eternally wonderful band Hefner.

Hefner were always good for making one feel slightly hopeful about being sad, odd and lonely. So it’s pretty ace for junior here. Also, Jack’s songs have become so heart-breakingly good, that it feels far from an exercise in nostalgia to listen to them. The EP is wonderful. The physical cd will look slightly different, but this is what the art will look something like.

Never a chore, as I often find myself drawing bald men in drag anyway.

It is being released by the wonderful and dutiful Audio Antihero. Please buy it.

New album, Rumfucker - October 31st 2010

For anyone that is at all interested, I made an album this month as part of the ‘International Album Making Month’ (write and record an album in the month of October). Really though, it was a good excuse to try and do something constructive with my time for once.

Either way, here it is. Rumfucker. You can get it for free (or give me lots of money) at: http://benjaminshaw.bandcamp.com

Thanks
